Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

HIV attacks the body’s immune system and weakens its ability to fight infections. Flu-like symptoms typically occur 2-4 weeks within infection and can last from only a few days to several weeks. Without treatment, HIV can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, people with HIV who stay on effective treatments can live long, healthy lives. See below to search for more info on HIV (or other health topics), schedule an appointment with a care specialist, learn about PrEP meds or connect with additional resources.

What is pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is daily medication taken by people at high risk of becoming infected with HIV. PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV when taken every day and can reduce the risk of contracting HIV through sexual contact and injecting drugs by 99% and 74%, respectively.

PrEP is for people who do not currently have HIV but are at risk for getting HIV through sex or injection drug use. Learn more about PrEP.
