Intervention designed to impact use of high-risk medications evaluated as part of CMS Star metric

Prime sent letters to doctors to let them know they had prescribed high-risk medications to Medicare members. The intervention group’s high-risk medication percentage declined more than the control group. It was a statistically significant difference. Certain medications carry a greater risk of adverse events for the older adults than for younger people. Safer options exist for many high-risk medications.
