Prime Together Foundation grant empowers VEAP's mission for community stability and hope
Grant from the Prime Therapeutics-founded 501(c)(3) organization helps Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) build stronger, more hopeful communities through access to healthy food, housing stability and supportive services
Every year, many Americans experience financial hardship and need assistance. In Minnesota, Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) is there to lend a helping hand to those in need.
In 2024, the Prime Together Foundation distributed a total of $108,870 in grant dollars to various nonprofit organizations, including VEAP, supporting its mission to create pathways to stronger, more hopeful communities through access to healthy food, housing stability and supportive services.
Grant funds help people like Zaman, who have used a variety of VEAP’s services — from the food pantry to childcare.
Zaman was first exposed to the organization when her mother was going through a divorce and experienced food insecurity. She accessed VEAP’s food pantry, which is laid out like a grocery store to offer greater choice. The way her mother was treated — with dignity and kindness — would stick with her for years to come.
Years later, Zaman struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety and needed support.
“I had my son at 20, and I never thought that I would be in the difficult situation that I found myself in. I was in total survival mode,” Zaman said. “I remembered VEAP, and it was a huge blessing that I didn't have to think twice about where I could go.”
“There have been times where I've gotten social services, got help with childcare,” she added. “I wouldn't have been able to go back to work without that.”
VEAP was a critical piece in helping Zaman find her light again. Now she’s genuinely excited for her future. She’s currently working in the medical field and enrolled in college.
Zaman is just one person that has been positively impacted by VEAP. But without support from organizations like the Prime Together Foundation, their work wouldn’t be possible.
“Funding plays such a huge role in what we do,” said Kari Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of VEAP. “The Prime Together Foundation’s support of VEAP allows us to meaningfully advance our mission of ending hunger and housing instability in the Twin Cities. With this support, we can provide pathways for people to overcome hardships and achieve stability.”
