In light of recent media and legislative attention on our industry, I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes Prime Therapeutics/Magellan Rx (Prime/MRx) so different from other pharmacy benefit managers. First, it’s our people. Each and every employee is dedicated to our purpose of providing the same care we would want for our loved ones. But it’s also about our business model.

This guiding principle drives how we serve clients and members every day, and I am incredibly proud of the important work we do as we live out our mission to reimagine pharmacy.

• Our focus on purpose beyond profits. Being privately held by a consortium of mission-driven partners allows us to invest in long-term solutions. We’re not publicly traded or owned by a private equity firm. As such, it is not our primary motivation to maximize profits; our primary motivation is to do the right thing.
• Our conflict-free approach. We are not incentivized to direct members to visit physician groups we own or fill prescriptions at pharmacies that we own. Instead, we work collaboratively with many providers and pharmacies through numerous distribution channels to help those we serve choose the best path for their needs while focusing our energy on making drugs more affordable and accessible for our members.
• Our cross-benefit management and specialty expertise. We take a holistic view of care to help manage the most complex conditions and expensive specialty drugs. We have deep in-house medical pharmacy experience, clinical expertise and the ability to deliver therapy-specific care that helps us lower the total cost of care and improve member experiences and health outcomes.
